What is there to see and do in Lake Louise?

  • Hiking, horseback riding, canoeing, white-water rafting and fishing for trout are all available within the area. The Columbia Icefields are nearby. Sightseeing and photographic opportunities abound as Lake Louise is situated in the heart of the great Canadian Rockies.

How far are the Columbia Icefields?

  • The famous Icefields are a short and scenic drive up the Banff/Japser Parkway (Highway 93N) north of Lake Louise. It takes about an hour to get there by car from the Mountaineer Lodge.

Can you fly into Lake Louise?

  • No, but there is an international airport in the city of Calgary about two and an half hours east of Lake Louise. Car rentals and airport shuttles are available.

Is the town of Banff very far away?

  • The town of Banff is the first community encountered in Banff National Park as you enter the Park from Calgary. Lake Louise is west of Banff and is a 40 minute drive from Banff on the Trans Canada Highway.

How long does it take to go to Jasper from Lake Louise?

  • Jasper is 260 kilometers north of Lake Louise on Highway 93 N. It may take anywhere between 2.5 to 3.5 hours to drive there depending on how many stops are made along the way to enjoy the scenery - the views along the highway are spectacular!

Where is the Lake in Lake Louise?

  • Lake Louise and the Chateau Lake Louise are 4 kilometers or about 10 minutes away from the Mountaineer Lodge by car. There is also a scenic walking trail which ascends from the village up to the lake. The hike is about one hour depending on fitness level.
